Frugal Fun With Barber Tools

We had a great time on Sunday. I laughed until I cried.

My very wonderful husband decided it was time to rid himself of winter....

(Thank goodness!)

He grew a beard to help shield his face against the harsh winter wind when he runs 18-20 miles on Sundays.

(I really don't blame him, but I still wouldn't grow one...even if I could.)

So we decided to have some fun with the clippers.

I guess you could add it to the list of my many jobs as a mom and wife. I am a barbress.

(If that is a word. If not I am making it up and calling myself one)

I only do boys' hair.... If I did girls and boys I would be a stylist. I guess....

My Olympian

The Winter Olympics came to Kansas... And Turner was such a good athlete, he got to participate in all of the events.

There was bobsledding, curling, snowball bouncing (which included both the super G and combined), SPEECH skating, curling, ice hockey, ski-jump, the biathlon, and several others.

He was on the red team...they won the gold medal ;-)

I had such a wonderful day with him. After all of that Olympic fun, he took me on a date to Applebees. I LOVE being a mom of four, but sometimes it is really fun to have a special day with just one!

Big Girls don't cry...

Maybe she is crying because she found out that she is not "big". We recently took Carly for her two year check-up to find out she is "below average" She is now 21.5 lbs, and has a small head, and she is short... Poor girl! She wasn't on the charts for anything but her height 5th percentile.

They drew her blood to see is she might have any problems with growth hormones (or something like that) and guess what, we found out...

She is wonderfully made, it's just the way God intended.

Busy... and blaming vampires

I am always busy... As I am sure most of you are. Some things that take up my time are things that HAVE to be done (laundry, cooking, cleaning, errands, finding toothbrushes... you know the normal day-to-day-with four kids stuff) Some things I am busy with because I want to be (working out, sewing, making hair bows, playing silly games with the kids) But there is something I am embarrassed to admit... so (deep breath) until last month, it has been OVER 8 years since I read a book for pleasure (not counting the Bible, and a few college books I actually found myself enjoying)... children's books don't count, they are in a whole category of their own, I am talking ACTUAL books without pictures people...

Then I was at gymnastics practice and was peer pressured into reading the Twilight Chronicles.

And well let's just say that many of the things that NEEDED to get done didn't.

I read all four books in about a week...

There, I got it off my chest. I became a Twilight freak... I never saw myself as a vampire/werewolf kind of gal.
Just don't tell anyone.
Plus, I am just letting the world know, as a bias mother, I think that Carly should be casted as Renesmee Cullen.... What do you think?

We spent our Christmas Eve with neighbors who got stranded here because of weather. We were suppose to have company but they couldn't come either. So I had a lot of groceries and it turned out GREAT. Our friends came over after church, and then they left and we opened a few gifts. I had to take a picture of the cheesecake I made, because it was my first time that it was NOT a jello cheesecake... I think I ate way to much of it though!

Leah won a 2-day gymnastics camp (at a gymnastics meet) with Nadia Comeneci and Bart Conner down in Oklahoma City...needless to say she was SUPER excited. She learned a lot, I think she is ready for her first meet of the year... the NYI meet.

Nadia and Bart were very hands on with the girls and gave a great speech that included telling the kiddos to remember to thank their parents...

Here he is before the race, runner number 745. You can see Pikes Peak off in the distance. No snow, rain or clouds... a beautiful morning.
Here he comes... The guy in the red shirt and hat. He explains the finish as a "boulder crawl" rather than a run!

Here he is coming up to the finish line. SERIOUSLY... looking down was a little frightening!

13.32 miles in 3hrs and 42 minutes. Number 311 out of 1800 (that signed up)..That may sound "easy to some accomplished street runners" BUT

The Pikes Peak Ascent redefined what Adam called running. Sure, it started out like a lot of races on Any Street, USA. But your first left turn had him turning in the direction of up! During the next 10 miles, he gained almost 6,000 vertical feet. But it wasn't until his last three miles, (where he could actually hear the runners names being called as they finished) with still over 2,000' of vertical to go, that he realized where the Marathon (when other crazy people turn around and go right back down, but it's not run until the next day) got its moniker—America’s Ultimate Challenge. (s0me people actually do both races!! Those crazies say it's more fun than Disney World, and I don't think they are kidding.)
There’s a reason trees don’t bother growing above 12,000' on Pikes Peak. They can’t! Makes one wonder if trees are smarter than runners. Above treeline most runners take 30 minutes or more, some much more, just to cover a mile. What little air remains (60 % oxygen..) can’t satisfy the endless stream of zombies hoping only to survive their next step—a death march right out of a scene from Dawn of the Dead.
I can't wait until next year because he says that he is doing the FULL MARATHON! He will run back down for the second half of the Marathon. Along the way protruding rocks are waiting to send him crashing to the ground mangling flesh and only temporarily masking the pain of blood filled blisters. AWESOME!!! At least I won't have to drive four kids to the top. That was an accomplishment for me!!! I am SO scared of cliffs especially when there is maybe SIX inches of shoulder before the 300 ft drop off.

Here is Mr. Incredible at the top. (I think he looks a little ashy in color) He is sporting the finisher's jacket and medal. We didn't stay for any more pictures, because he felt the need to get back DOWN!!! SO we hurried off... as fast as the 10 mile per hour speed limit would allow us!

BE WARNED!! This video was taken by an amateur videographer who is 8yrs old... this may cause dizziness or nausea for those who get motion sickness!

I can't believe July is OVER! I guess I will just recap in pictures. Or at least what I remember of it!

The kids finished up with T-ball, softball, and baseball. Let me tell you that having 3 kids in three sports at the same time was C.R.A.Z.Y!!! I guess this is just the beginning!

We had some friends over for the fourth and we had so much FUN! Sorry for the lack of pictures here...

Carly sported her first set of pigtails. CUTENESS!

Adam turned 30!!!!! We celebrated by decorating the house and "SURPRISING" him... I think he loved it!

On the 14th we celebrated 9 years of marriage! No pictures, but I really feel like we had a lot to celebrate and be thankful for. We are BLESSED beyond measure!

Adam ran is first marathon! He did GREAT in 3hrs. and 41 minutes. I had so much fun watching him. I am so proud to be his wife!
The kids (Tyler, Leah, and Turner) spent the week at Camp Family. This was just a picture of Okoboji. Camp family is where my parents, and Adam's dad and his wife Lori, and Mom and husband Kevin take turns having all the kids and SPOILING them beyond belief, and then send them on to the next house. I think it is SO awesome that my kids get that opportunity. THEY LOVE IT! I on the other hand then spent the next two weeks "re-training" my spoiled children... BUT I wouldn't have it any other way! I had some MUCH needed time with just Carly and forgot what it was like to just have ONE!!! Oh my, that was quite a difference. JUST to reiterate... I LOVE having FOUR!!!
Adam grew (and shaved) a beard... Don't tell him this, but it was growing on me! We ended the month with everyone in the family having the flu! (That made for a lot of cleaning to ring in August) I can't wait to see what August brings!

I can ride my bike with two wheels in no time!!!!

VACATION 2009....Colorado tour

I LOVE family vacations. Spending time with the people I LOVE the most, away from reality, and focusing exclusively on the family. We went to Garden of the Gods to watch Adam run ( ALWAYS feel proud to be his wife but I feel so much when I watch him achieve a goal), Denver, Estes Park, and Winter Park. All amazing and all beautiful. We had a blast and now I have TONS of laundry waiting for me. I guess it's back to reality.

Happy 4th Birthday Turner on "MAY NINETEEN" (Today is my birthday) You were the best two day belated 24th birthday present EVER! You always make me smile... I love you!

My mother's day started with some breakfast made by Tyler... This is the story that has been told to me, Tyler set his alarm so he could wake up early to make me breakfast. After awhile he decided that he would make me toast and BLACK coffee. (I usually drink a protein shake for breakfast so they were apparently clueless as to what to make me. BUT I thought it was sweet!) So Tyler thought and thought about what to put on the toast. He asked Adam to butter it, and Adam old him that he thought I might not want butter so to keep thinking about what mom would want. After Tyler spent much time searching in the fridge he told Adam he really did not know what to put on the toast. Then he said "I know, we could look on her MYFACE to see what she likes. " ---SO CUTE!!! SO I ended up with cold BLACK coffee and a little BLACK dry toast. Which I ate so happily knowing how much love was put into it.

Then we went to church, Adam did some laundry and we went out to dinner. While we were out, I had to take Turner and Leah to the RR. When we were walking there a gentleman was on his way out. He politely wished me a Happy Mother's Day. Being the kind Soul he is Turner promptly responded "Happy Mother's Day to you too!" -HE is one of the FUNNIEST kiddos EVER!

I also received a beautiful bird bath. That I hope to see the blue jays and cardinals using in our backyard. I knew about this gift prior to mother's day because Adam took Turner with him when he bought it. He was so confused about keeping a secret from me. He just kept asking what he should say. Finally Adam tod him to say nothing... Right when he walked in the door, /I asked what took them so long. Turner responded "We had to get you a bird bath".. Adam ..a lesson learned don't take the kids with you if you want to keep it a secret. Oh, then I saw Turner had a scrape on his knee, so I asked where he got it from. He then told me he got it from when he was picking out my birdbath.

Saturday was a SUPER busy day!

We spent the morning watching Adam run the 10K at the River Race. He set a PR. He ran it in 41 minutes. He has been running a lot lately and has really improved his time and his physical shape. I am so PROUD to be his wife. He wants to take great care of his body so that he can be around for a long time and also help our kids live a healthy lifestyle.

Tyler ALSO set a PR. He ran the 2 mile in 16 min. ans 30 sec. You can see by his picture that he is beating many men who appear to be in great physical condition! WAY to go Tyler... He also placed second in his age category at the Easter Sun Run. there he ran it in 16 min and 40 sec.

Turner ran the Tot Trot and he "won" he also "won" last year, here is a side by side of that event. SERIOUSLY. not much has changed.

This day was filled with Baseball pics, a baseball scrimmage and baseball practice for Tyler.

(she is the director of marketing and advertising for Rainbows United) Thanks Michelle! We love her and her family to pieces.

BUT NASA later picked up on it and used it as windows for the shuttle. Well with all of that said this mission would have fallen in the category of disastrous. I was standing in the kitchen and heard a loud pop and then a crash from my oven! That can never be good! It was a good thing that it was just my dinner and that pizza was just a phone call away. But that proved to be disastrous to my diet! I guess I just didn't come out a winner in this situation.

Today made it official..Spring is here. My garden is planted. If you didn't know. I love to garden. Last year was my first year with a real garden and I learned a few things. I hope that this years garden will be better than last year. Here is a before picture

And here is after everything was planted.

I know that it is not much change. But just wait. I love to see those little plants come up. Today we planted Basil, Chives, rhubarb, corn, peas, three types of beans, potatoes, carrots, onions, zuchini, and green peppers. I still have to buy some tomato plants and jalepenos.

The kids played in the backyard, and I set Carly in the grass while I worked and she had an obvious aversion to it. She did not move! I think she sat for at least 15 minutes. She did not cry, but she would not get up and walk either. She just sat and "talked" to the neighbor doggies. Silly girl.

I never saw that one coming, but thanks to everyone who replied, I am now kind of thinking I should change the site address. Adam says that is why you should always read and re-read. I was just so proud of myself for getting this done! You all need to get your minds out of the gutter. (But you can still be my friends) I have officially decided NOT to change the site name. You won't forget it then!

I did it!

I made a blog! A little pressure from friends and I did it. I am trying to figure it all out so it may be awhile before it looks pretty, but in good time my friends. I plan on posting recipes, good deals, family happenings, fun times, and my creations. Here is a start, a look into our lives currently.

I'll start with Tyler he is now 8. He is in 2nd grade. He is a smart and wonderful little guy. He is a great big brother. He loves sports. In fact he just finished basketball and did really well. Here is a video of his first basket. Dad coached.

We'll see if I can do this if not I may need to take a lesson. Never mind, I cannot do it. I will have to get Adam involved in this venture.

On to Leah, she is my little helper girl, although she is not ALWAYS enthusuastic about helping, she does it. She loves being a big sister, and loves her American Girl doll, Barbies, friends, gymnastics, and clothes. Although most of the time she is a girly girl, she can be found often in jeans and tees playing with the boys. She is in kindergarten and is getting the hang of reading. She is a sweet as she is sour. But we Love her and we are keeping her.

Turner...NuNer... What else can I say about him... HE is a HAM! This kid keeps us laughing, and the thing is that he does not try to be funny. He just says the FUNNIEST things. Hopefully I can use this as a way to write some of those things down so we can remember them. BUT don't laugh at Turner because he insists that he is NOT funny. He has the cutest dark brown eyes and everyday he is a new character, Batman is his current fav. He goes to Pre-school two days a week with Miss Mikki and Miss Courtney. He adores both of them. He loves stories and will laugh at all of them it is fun to see him get so into books.

Carly is the baby. She just turned ONE and I cannot believe it. She is a sweet and loving little thing. We have had quite the run with her. She was born with Erbs Palsy and we went through physical therapy and the issue has been resolved, no more symptoms and she now has full use of her right arm. The doctors thought for awhile that she may even have a muscle disease because she was very flimsy, and had low muscle tone, BUT she as proved them wrong. She is now walking and getting around everywhere all before 13 months. GOOD GIRL! She sure showed them! Her favorite things right now are mandarine oranges, bananas and "doggies" -also her favorite word! Here is a picture of our precious little girl.

Speaking of doggies. We have one of those too. We love her. Mer name is Macy and we often get asked what kind of dog she is. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She is EXCELLENT with the kids and puts up with Carly. She is a great addition to our family.

I know that thesse are not the greatest pictures, I was working on our laptop and we save our pictures to and external drive on the basement. It appears that this blogging thing may have to take place when everyone is in bed. That is all for now. I will work on my blog appearance, and learing how to add buttons and cool stuff. For now, I am done. We will see where this takes me and I hope to actually get people to read this thing!
